The Mill

Here is a picture of the mill on the Motor Trail above Gatlinburg in June of '09'.  This picture was shot early in the morning after lots of rain fell the day before.  Matt and I scoped this out the day it was raining.  I have another shot that looks just like this one.  You can decide which one you like the best.  We had to cross the stream just a little ways, but it was flowing so fast it would have been very easy to fall in.  We had to roll up our shorts (just a tad) and cross with our bags on our back and tripod in hand (we do have waterproof backpacks so don't try this with a regular pack or bag).  In this shot, I had to squat down on a rock, stabilize the tripod, and make sure I didn't slip off the rock into the water.  It was very uncomfortable, but I think it was worth it.  The focal length was 46mm, aperture at 8, ISO of 100, and shutter speed of 13sec.  Here is the other picture I took the day it was raining.

This one is unedited, straight off the camera.  I look forward to going back and shooting more scenes of the Smokies, very soon.

  1. I think this is a great picture. The bottom version reminds me of the Thomas Kinkade paintings with the light shining down in a particular spot. You did a great job!
